I grew up in a suburb of St. Paul, MN, but have lived the last 17 years in a small town in SE MN, so I think I understand some of the urban/rural challenges and advantages in life. I'm an atheist, but I sincerely respect religious people, and I'm glad when religion can be a comfort to someone. I play the organ for a Presbyterian church. I'm involved in small-town community theatre -- the type on stage and the type that is day-to-day life :) I'm very liberal in my politics, but I'm interested in understanding the source of conservative fear and outrage that seems to grip so many.
On Gather, I'm Looking For ...:
I'm looking for smart conversation on topical issues. (Or on any issue.) Too often I'll read an article on another site, and down in the comments will be a bunch of name-calling, or irrelevent posts, or racist/sexist/homo-phobic rants that make me sad for our future. I hope to connect with thoughtful writers of all leanings.
Hey ms Joan, I didn't leave you alone under the pressure ... I did send you a comment. I didn't use your name so I wrote another little post telling you it was up there. I may have even gone back and put your name in it :) I think politics riles feelings more than religion. I went up and wrote a correction to what I said about the Hollywood duo. It's so easy to become irrational under pressure. :) You did good.
I'm disconnecting from Gather, it's not worth my time any more. I write to stimulate discussions and debate, that doesn't seem to be happening any longer. Take care
